Shagarthang Hydropower Project was identified by Northern Areas Public Works Department (NAPWD) in the middle Stretch of Kachura Lungma a left tributary of Indus river about 50 km from Skardu city. The contract for the feasibility Study of the project was awarded to M/S Mirza Associate Engineering Services (Pvt.) Lahore and Karakuram Engineering Consultant Skardu in May 2007. The consultant after carrying out the feasibility studies submitted the proposal for 26 MW Hydropower Project in June 2008. Accordingly the draft PC-1 was prepared by the Water and Power Department and was submitted for approval by ECNEC. The ECNEC approved the PC-I of the project for an amount of Rs.3356.546 Million on 20th August 2009. The project is being funded 80% by ADB (Asian Development Bank) and EIB (European Investment Bank) while 20% by PSDP(Public Sector Development Projects ).
